About the Allis Chalmers 170
The Allis-Chalmers 170 was produced from 1967 to 1973 at the West Allis, Wisconsin plant, replacing the D-17 and serving the mid-sized row-crop market. Available with both gasoline and diesel 4-cylinder engines producing approximately 60 horsepower, the 170 introduced the Power-Director transmission to the mid-range Allis lineup and adopted the distinctive Persian Orange color that defined late-1960s Allis tractors. It was a popular working farm tractor in its day and remains a frequent restoration project — but parts and service information can be harder to find than for the more iconic Deere and IH models of the era, making correct manuals especially valuable.
